This is an 22 karat yellow gold and platinum pendant that is inspired by our favorite era, the Art Nouveau period.
The center gemstone is an antique cushion cut diamond (1.31ct) that I found in a piece of Mughal jewelry. The diamond was cut in the late 1700's and is from the Golconda region of India which was the source of all the diamonds in the ancient world. Many of the worlds most famous diamonds (the Hope Diamond and the Dresden Green) are from this venerable source as are very special diamonds that are purer than what can be found today. Golconda diamonds are the purest form of diamond in that they they are virtually pure carbon.
The cognac color briolette cut diamond (1.35ct) is from the same region and same period. I cut this diamond off a ceremonial jacket of an Indian maharajah whose grandson was selling the estate at a jewelry show in Hong Kong.
